need a venue for your next event?
Host your next event or photoshoot in a stunning four-story Parisian inspired atelier in the heart of downtown San Francisco's Union Square.
About the space
Our 3-story atelier has recently been transformed into a unique platform for design, beauty, and constant inspiration. Inspired by Christian Dior’s Parisian fashion house, the 4-story atelier is the perfect setting for a creative and inspiring gathering. As with all traditional European workspaces, this is a space where craftsmanship is sacred and the decor supports the belief that a beautiful workspace supports beautiful memories.
We are a functioning couture house with master patternmakers & seasoned full-time sewers onboard, equipped in making the most complex gown projects using intricate fabrics. This mastery translates to beautiful photo opportunities. The Atelier space is frequently used for designer events, boutique trunk shows, private client fittings, and special industry events.
Our atelier and add-on options are perfect for wedding-related events, such as bridal showers, bachelorette gatherings, photoshoots, and engagement celebrations. It's also ideal for private events: cocktail receptions, birthday celebrations, holiday parties, and more. Let the work to us and we will make sure your space looks and feels exquisite!
The atelier is rented for 4-hour events, Monday through Friday from 5-9 pm or Saturday and Sunday between 10 am and 9 pm. Up to 20 people are allowed and COVID protocol is followed. Photoshoots may be scheduled Monday through Friday from 10 am-5 pm, in 4 hour periods. Up to 5 people are allowed and COVID protocol is followed.
Work one-on-one with our in-house coordinator on the design, set up, and customized specifications to meet your needs. Add-on services are available for floral and decor design, food and beverage, and day-of coordination.
The Couturiere is currently in full operation and working in compliance with COVID-19 protocols. Actions that will be taken include: deep cleaning prior to use, hand sanitizer upon arrival and throughout the space for all guests, thorough cleaning of all surfaces before and after meetings, socially distanced events with no more than 20 guests in the space. Add-on custom-made masks are available for event guests' added safety.
fun building history
Our atelier is located inside a landmarked Art Nouveau Hammersmith Building, designed by the late Lansburgh & Joseph, which adds a compelling contrast to the downtown San Francisco streetscape. This important corner building characterizes the Beaux-Arts inspired post-1906 development of the neighborhood.
The building has a large amount of glass despite the time period it was built in, and one special motif - a building-wide arch - runs through every floor. It has wholly maintained its integrity, having been remodeled very little in its one-hundred-fourteen year existence. One of the architects, G. Albert Lansburgh, earned local fame particularly as a designer of theatres.
The Couturiere consists of four equally-sized levels of 500 square feet of charm. The Ground floor is The Couturiere's concept store, showcasing the gown-making process and examples, along with local floral artist bouquets. The 2nd level consists of a stunning showroom and lounge with a unique birds-eye view of downtown. It is perfect for a sunset cocktail while the local street performer plays his saxophone outside.
The 3rd level is the atelier workshop, where the magic of dressmaking happens. Staffed with local craftsmen who use traditional haute couture processes on each gown designed at The Couturiere. The 4th level is a breathtaking meeting and celebration space. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide stunning views of downtown lights.
